Although I have no access to MRP640 presently, it would be especially helpful for others to know what release of BPCS you are using due to the varying degrees of success folks have had over the years depending on the release being utilized. I have had good success recently on a V8.3 (LX) client - but am presently at a V4 client where it has been disabled.
That said, the production line concept is used to group common WCs together. It could also be a production cell or other common grouping of WCs. Hence the reason for the expectation that the WCs are in a single grouping of some sort which BPCS happens to call a Production Line and is set on the WC. Group Tech Code 1, set at the item level, is also used for sequencing and is generally useful as part of the MRP640 processing logic.
Hope this is of some help - I'm sure others with access may be able to be more specific.

subject: [BPCS-L] Use of MRP640 for finite scheduling
Hello there,
We?find it difficult to obtain information how to work successful with the MRP640 program and look for advise.
PS: In our setup items get produced by going through multiple routing steps on different work centres.
When working with MRP640 to plan the production and create the shop orders from here we experienced that only routing entries are getting considered where the work centre is assigned to the production line we are working in. Other routing steps with different work centres from the same routing are getting ignored and dropped in the shop order creation with option 6.
We wonder as well how to optimize the production plan generation considering with capacity constraints?when using MRP640 as the only available capacity planning tool.
How do you use MRP640 in your environment?
Thanks in advance for some tips & advise
Regards
