My Company had used multiple currencies (CAD & USD) previously
and just moved the company with the CAD to a different
environment. I was not there during that time and am not aware
of the issues that could have driven them to move a company to
another environment to solve the issues.
Can anyone share with me their experiences, good or bad, with
using multiple currencies and the "Gotchas" that might have made
this endeavor fail?
FWiW: Is it possible there was\is a tendency to go outside of the
application itself, to query the data in its databases directly;
e.g. to produce summary reports? If so, that could be difficult
without some well defined VIEWs to ease obtaining of /accurate/
information about currency values. For example: A simple query that
sums a column which stores rows with multiple currencies, but which
is defined with a primitive numeric data type, will give an
obviously bogus answer. When assured all currencies are consistent
[e.g. running two separate installations, each with its own
currency], such an issue will not present itself in accessing the
database of the application, outside of that application.
