I think this forum is appropriate for SOME Query questions, particularly
related to BPCS files/fields identification, which query techniques most
suitable, understanding inadequacies of tools vs. BPCS DB fundamentals,
risk of dirty data, basically Gotchas when using Query to access BPCS
data. Remember that BPCS-L includes non-technical people, some threads may
need to go off-line.
If you plan to collect data in a field in a BPCS file, by whatever means,
outside of BPCS... be very careful not to mess up BPCS in the
process. Understand the role of your target fields before you change their
contents.
I think Midrange-L more appropriate for theoretical how-to working with
SQL/400, open-query-file joining, creating new index keys, logicals,
getting embedded SQL cursors to work, handshake with Microsoft SQL server,
ways to get our output into Excel.
There's other midrange.com forums.
Several magazines host forums (sometimes subscription required).
Some are Query specific ... SQL, open-query-file, Query/400..
Is this forum a good place for Query-related resources (i.e., how to
linking files and use fields to collect data)?
