When I learned BPCS, I asked about various standards ... to what degree can we depend on what is being said about BPCS to be effective throught the package? I was told about 85%. I have found exceptions all over the place, but I don't consider them pervasive, so the 85% is probably a good estimate.
I have modified several BPCS programs. Many of them have initialization steps that check the security of the user of the program to make sure they have appropriate authorization for what they are doing. Many that should, don't. So for example, suppose a person has security to do labor ticket input, but is blocked from PR CI RJ transactions ... My guess is, that labor input will go in, will not bomb, that person will end up posting those transactions.
INV300 and INV355 are other examples. People might be blocked from doing particular transactions thru INV500, but they can use other programs to learn about those transactions, see what is happening with them, get reports listing their activity.
If anyone uses the on-line help, it is structured to tell everyone the same story. No information is blocked from some users because of their security settings.

We are on V6.04, July Cum. Up to now, we haven't tried to restrict a user's access to selected Inventory Transactions when we set up a user in SYS600. We have used menu restrictions to restrict what our users can do. But we would like to investigate the possibilities. What are the ramifications of doing so? I'm not sure what happens if, for example, we take away a user's authority to do "B" transactions but leave "Pick Confirm" on their menu. If they run Pick Confirm, which generates "B" transactions, does it bomb out or not start at all ? When doing Inventory enquiries, does the user still see transactions of types that they aren't authorised to ? I'm sure Infor will have thought this through and it will hang together, but I want to be sure before we start restricting users in this way. Any advice gratefully received. Thanks in advance.
