HPW is a work file - used in PUR500 and a few other places like PUR640.

When nobody is on the system it is supposed to be empty!!!

Either you have had someone make changes to BPCS or you are missing a BMR.....

You should be fairly safe clearing the file when everybody else is off.

The same goes for ECHW and ECLW (I have seen several V6 sites where these files weren't emptied properly by BPCS)

Kind regards
Bent Nielsen

[BPCS-L] Forms Packages for BPCS V8.2

Speaking of forms packages. Because of a contemplated move to BPCS
v8.2, we have to consider new forms processing software. BPCS V8.2 for
reasons known only to someone is written over a DBCS data base which our
current forms processing (OPTIO) can't handle. I have written a
workaround, but have been told to investigate other options.

We have the following non negotiable requirements:

Must run on the Iseries (V5R3)
Must be able to do SQL calls back to the system for data not on the
spool file.
Must be able to handle DBCS spool files.
Must be able to initiate calls to the system and start other jobs
based on the contents of the spool file.

Can any one recommend a forms processing package that satisfies the
above?

I have worked on various versions of BPCS using forms packages and in
each case we used the contents of spool files to generate the barcodes.
I cannot say whether BPCS has the capability to print bar codes (I
expect
not) or since the clients were using the forms package to print other
forms we decided to forgo whatever capability BPCS has and use the
package.

In the past, ERP software solution providers concentrated on their
specialty and left the niche market of forms process to other vendors.

Gregory,

Thanks for the reply, but I don't see how it answers my questions
concerning the capabilities of ERP LX.

Do you have any specific information about ERP LX? Or even the v6
releases of BPCS?

Thank you,

Most generally the bar code generation software works off either data
in a spool file or extracted data from the data base.

Within most these software solutions barcode printing is an integral
component of the product while in others the capability is an add on
feature.

Just curious as to how barcoded label printing is handled in shops
running ERP LX.

Does BPCS include any integral capabilities?

Does BPCS interface with external application such as TL Ashford's
Barcode/400? How?

subject: Re: [BPCS-L] Contents of HPW File

May I assume you know about the standard BPCS file clean up options, from
secondary menu of SYS such as SYS120, most of which ought to be run when no
one else on BPCS, and the standard BPCS end fiscal clean-up programs such
as PUR900? We're on an earlier version of BPCS.

Our HPW file has 12 good records and 394 deleted, last updated this morning.
We have NEVER needed to take any special action to clean it up.

I have in times past done major cleanup of our BPCS files, that are not
well served by the standard cleanup options, may have come to some
conclusions helpful to you. Are you also aware that almost all the work
involved in BPCS cleanup has already been done by 3rd party firms that
offer archiving solutions? In other words, you can set business rules for
goodby old data that is more sophisticated than what comes with BPCS.

In addition to file cleanup, there is also software cleanup, where we have
a base version then a series of BMR and release add ons higher up the
ladder of the library list, where in our case we have half a dozen copies
of ORD500 each of which is in the neighborhood of a meg all by itself, and
it calls a dozen other programs of like sizing. Since this has been
working fine for a while, we really need to clean out the older versions,
but this can be an extremely tedious undertaking.

Everyone - we are on version 6.04 mixed mode Bpcs. I'm desperately trying
to do some major cleanups in our files. The HPW file has 350,000 records.
Does anyone know if this file can be cleared? It looks like a work file
against purchase orders and requisitions.
