Here is a little summary chart I put together when we went through our
conversion to V8.2

Field Desc. V6.04 V8.2
Item Number A 15 A 35
Vendor Number P 5.0 P 8.0
Customer Number P 6.0 P 8.0
Customer Name A 30 A 50
Customer Address A 30 A 50
Vendor Name A 30 A 50
Item Description A 30 A 50
PO Line Item # P 3.0 P 4.0
Buyer Code A 1 A 3
Vendor Address A 30 A 50
Customer PO # A 15 A 23
Customer Order # P 6.0 P 8.0
Cust. Order Line #P 3.0 P 4.0
Purchase Order # P 6.0 P 8.0
Shop Order # P 6.0 P 8.0
Warehouse A 2 A 3
Lot Number A 10 A 25
Location A 6 A 10
Facility Code A 2 A 3

The other thing to keep in mind is that between 6.04 and 8.2, BPCS was
double-byte character set (DBCS) enabled. That means that instead of the
data type being A for Alpha, it is now O for DBCS Open. The change to allow
DBCS caused us to rewrite some of our queries and to replace some of our
older printers.

The customer number and vendor numbers have changed from 6, 5 to 8,8
respectively.

Every address line is now 50 characters and there are now 6 lines of
address

All of the other field lengths are the same that you noted below.

Phone and fax numbers still 25,

Data number (e-mail address) is now 50.

Subject: [BPCS-L] Field Size Changes

We currently are running BPCS V6.04 and are thinking about moving
towards
V8. Since we have built our own applications over the BPCS files they
would have to be modified as well. It is my understanding that there
are
some changes in fields sizes in V8 from V6. I am most interested in the
following fields, could someone on V8 tell me if these fields have
changed
in size and if so to what lengths.

From the Customer Master File:

CCUST Customer Number 6,0
CNME Customer Name 30A
CAD1 Address Line 1 30A
CAD2 Address Line 2 30A
CAD3 Address Line 3 30A
CSTE State 3A
CZIP Postal Code 9A
CCOUN Country Code 4A
CTYPE Customer Type 4A
CPHON Phone Number 25A
CFAXN Fax Number 25A
CDATN Data Number 25A
Is there a new field specifically designated for E-Mail and if so what
length is it?

From the Ship To Master File:

Same fields as above, I will assume they are the same lengths as the
customer master unless I hear otherwise.
TSHIP Ship To Number 4,0
STADTP Address Type 2,0

Thanks
