Well, which came first--the chicken or the egg. I'm betting on the egg. (aka $$$) It's nice that you know what we make so I guess we can save our money on those spots that we had planned for the next Super Bowl. <g> Yes, it can be both but if it weren't the drive to be profitable (and trust me, we are being driven) what would be the point of advancing the technology? I, personally, work to be profitable. Why does Bill Gates work? Does he need the money? No, he has satisfied that need and is working on his higher-level needs, such that as that of advancing technology. Don't get me wrong. I'm all for advancing technology and making better products but people have invested money in my company and they expect a certain level of return. If they aren't meeting their expectations then they will find people to run the company who can generate such a return. Infor has invested money in BPCS and will have expectations. One of those expectations is a certain amount of ROI. They may have also invest in it because the success of their other products is dependant upon the success of BPCS. If this is the case then it would benefit them to advance the BPCS ERP technology. |---------+---------------------------------------------------> | | "Jim Black" <jrblack@xxxxxxxxxx> | | | Sent by: | | | bpcs-l-bounces+daparnin=niscoseals.com@m| | | idrange.com | | | | | | | | | 05/21/2006 10:39 AM | | | Please respond to "SSA's BPCS ERP | | | System" | | | | |---------+---------------------------------------------------> >----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | | | To: "'SSA's BPCS ERP System'" <bpcs-l@xxxxxxxxxxxx> | | cc: | | Subject: Re: [BPCS-L] SSA Global acquired by Infor | >----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| Are you sure it's always JUST about the money!? Would you say "Nishikawa Standard Company isn't in business to further the technological advancement of door and window systems. They are in business to be profitable"?? Can't it be both? Doesn't one lead to the other? ;) JRB -----Original Message----- From: bpcs-l-bounces+jrblack=rogers.com@xxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:bpcs-l-bounces+jrblack=rogers.com@xxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of daparnin@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Tuesday, May 16, 2006 1:54 PM To: SSA's BPCS ERP System Subject: Re: [BPCS-L] SSA Global acquired by Infor It's always about the money. They aren't in business to further the technological advancement of ERP systems. They are in business to be profitable. I don't think that they've owned MAPICS long enough to do anything with it, although I don't keep up on the MAPICS world. I do know that Future3/Autorelease has had hooks into the various versions of MAPICS and BPCS for years so they shouldn't be completely new to it. I'm optimistic that they will be good guardians of the product. Do we know how well INFOR has serviced the other ERP it has aquired before SSA's? When Gores Technology bought out the bankrupted SSA, making it SSA GT, that was a good thing for the future of BPCS. >I wonder what this will do to the software maintenance costs??? > >Kevin Washburn -- This is the SSA's BPCS ERP System (BPCS-L) mailing list To post a message email: BPCS-L@xxxxxxxxxxxx To subscribe, unsubscribe, or change list options, visit: http://lists.midrange.com/mailman/listinfo/bpcs-l or email: BPCS-L-request@xxxxxxxxxxxx Before posting, please take a moment to review the archives at http://archive.midrange.com/bpcs-l.
