If an asset is setup say in January but only depreciates 1/2 year the first year, then do you count 6 periods or 12 periods of depreciation the first year? The depreciation tables provided by SSA are very simple and always assume a 12 period year. If you look at one of those tables for assets that depreciate only half year the first year, you will find that it is still depreciating for 12 periods, but at half the normal rate. Therefore, you should count 12 periods of depreciation for the year. David Placeres Phoenix Business Consulting, Inc.
