I feel the pain. Heaven forbid, if you have an older Model 170, 6XX, and soon 7XX system, and would like to upgrade to a newer 8XX system. The cost from SSA is prohibitive. I wonder if IBM knows about this, since they are "partners". It may be worth a call to your IBM marketing rep. or BP to find out who to contact at IBM. -----Original Message----- From: bpcs-l-bounces@xxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:bpcs-l-bounces@xxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Bill Sent: Wednesday, July 16, 2003 5:39 PM To: BPCS-L@xxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: Moving On to Another Software System For those of you that haven't checked recently, SSA is no longer insisting on 10 thousand dollars for a new software key - they are now demanding the restoration of software maintenance and the payment of a penalty that could equal the revenue lost by not keeping maintenance current. It is due to their unrelenting attitude and the final price tag that one company is looking to move away from BPCS and on to another package. So, my question to you is: If you were in the same predicament, which package would you prefer to move on to or what package have you heard good things about? Let's assume that staying on the AS/400 is a requirement. (I strongly recommend everyone not on current maintenance to contact SSA and find out what the impact would be to your company. This issue could have an extreme impact on the viability of your company and no one should encounter this situation unprepared).
