Lisa Using RFID into your BPCS system or any other system can be costly and may not be as effective as a simple linear 1D barcode. RFID tags can be expensive depending upon the application and the use of the tag. You need to ask yourself how you want to use the tag. Are you going to use the tag as a read only, or do you wan to use a read write tag. Right now most of the tags are running around $1.00 per tag and they can go higher depending upon the environmental requirements. This technology has been around for a while and it is just starting to become a main stream product. But until the price per tag comes down, it will be limited to specific applications. I would suggest that you look into a 2D barcode technology if a 1D or linear barcode does not work. Please feel free to contact me off line for more information if you like. I know the basics about bar coding, and have integrated it with BPCS, but someone has asked me about using RFID for a specific task (that doesn't even need to interface with BPCS). As I've been exploring this (and learning a little about RFID in the process!), I've wondered whether it makes sense to use RFID instead of bar coding for some applications that will need to interface with BPCS. Anyone with any experience in this area?
