MTO v MTS

We are on BPCS 6.0. We have a combination of both Make to Stock (MTS) and
Make to Order (MTO) items. We would like to be able to distinguish between
them for both planning and for order entry. Unfortunately, there doesn't
seem to be a box to check on the item master. How do other people
distinguish between MTO and MTS end items?
