Jenny,

Like you, we had a requirement to improve our communications with our
customers and field sales people. We looked at Lansa, SSA and other tool
vendors but decided on the Nexgen product because it was really the only
one that offered the turn-key features we needed but also provided a solid
foundation for other business initiatives that we have.

We decided early on that we did not want to build a solution from scratch,
and we did not want to invest in a lot of new skills to support the site.
We have been impressed with the flexible capabilities of NexgenCommerce to
extend our current systems.

In making a decision regarding the right solution for your company, I
believe there are a number of questions you should consider, 1) how much
can you afford to ramp-up your own technical skills vs. buying a
ready-built solution? 2) what are the ongoing costs to support the new
software/technology? 3) can the solution be used to satisfy multiple
initiatives or additional projects? 4) how fully integrated is the solution
to BPCS?

Our web portal is up and live and our next project is in progress. We're
using NexgenCommerce to implement a mobile sales force order entry
application using PocketPC handheld devices. Plans for other projects are
in the works. Good luck in your selection process!

subject: Working towards e-commerce.

Our organization is in the process of moving towards e-commerce which I
know can mean a lot of different things to a lot of different people.
Ultimately, our goal is to improve communications with our customers. We
can crawl into this by running queries/reports on the AS/400 and then
e-mailing them to customers or posting to a website via ftp. In the latter
case, I'm not sure of the best way to limit specific customers to seeing
just their orders. Any suggestions?

In the longer term, we are exploring LANSA's Smartweb for BPCS. We are on
the ancient version of 3.1 with Nexgen Y2K mods. Has anybody out there had
much experience in using LANSA? Any comments or suggestions would be
greatly appreciated. TIA.

Jenny
