You are absolutely correct that IBM is providing lots of technological improvements to the iSeries. But the anonymous critic is also quite correct that many iSeries people, even the really smart ones, behave like Luddites. The percentage of iSeries shops that have significant ILE use is pitifully small. The fraction of programmers using the _FREE_ CODE400 tool is minuscule. How many of us are using the web serving and CGI capabilities? Who among us use the trigger or referential integrity features of DB/400? To our detriment, we get stuck in these ruts, and need to get kicked in the head to get out of them. Take care! Tom >>> macwheel99@sigecom.net 10/29/02 09:27AM >>> >Most of these customers are much like the BPCS >customer in that they will stick with the iSeries and >not bother with new technology. I not want to get in an arguement here, just point out that customers who stick with the iSeries do get new technology from IBM - there is a constant stream of new capabilities from a box that has a lot more stability and security and scalability than the competition. - Al Macintyre (macwheel99@sigecom.net via Eudora) Al's diary http://radio.weblogs.com/0107846/ Cure cancer. http://members.ud.com/about/ THIS MESSAGE IS INTENDED ONLY FOR THE USE OF THE INDIVIDUAL OR ENTITY TO WHICH IT IS ADDRESSED AND MAY CONTAIN INFORMATION THAT IS PRIVILEGED, CONFIDENTIAL AND EXEMPT FROM DISCLOSURE UNDER APPLICABLE LAW.
