Mitch,
If MRP visibility is your main concern, and you have already taken the first
step of creating a special warehouse  - why not take the next step and define
a facility to go with it.  MRP will be out of the loop but happy.   It also
keeps all the history under one item number.  This may be good/bad news but
you will need a cost in the new facility. By the way, with 604 you could
setup a facility specific price book.
