Bill: I had been responding individually, but so many people on the BPCS-L group have sent inquiries that I have decided to publish my response on the list server. My apologies to any who object ... But this message does have some properties of a sales pitch ... Answer to "How variant is our version from the vanilla VICS document format?" : We added information for Wal-Mart that we can trigger not to print for other customers ... The headings for that info are added by our program to the pre-printed multi-part form ... Other than that, there is some column spacing that doesn't exactly match the layout published by VICS, but our take has been that these specs were at least a little bit malleable ... If you feel differently, it should not be such a big deal to modify the PRTF .. The important thing is that we have the content in place ... I will publish our layouts in PDF format on our web site this weekend ... And will send them to you directly ASAP ... And yes, we do the supplement, mark-for and ship-to, LTL and FTL . I am not certain about consolidated ... I will check with our author and elaborate tomorrow ... Our solution for VICS bill of lading document compliance is a subset of our EDI integration toolset for the AS/400. We are making it available as a standalone to help companies that are struggling with customer standards for compliance. This has all developed in the last month or so, so please forgive me for not being fully prepared marketing-wise ... Our solution takes advantage of the fact that the VICS bill of lading has properties that closely model those that you have to address in order to do a good job producing an electronic bill of lading (like the X.12 856 ship notice and EDIFACT DESADV documents). Producing the electronic bills of lading is what our product's main focus is ... The printed bill of lading is actually a side benefit ... The reason we can support the VICS document is that we already had the data collection and supporting database issues covered for eCommerce versions ... For BPCS sites (and most others, we expect) this is where the ERP product lacks panache ... So, when one of our clients needed to hit the VICS form, we were already there ... This is about all I can put in print on short notice. You can visit our web site at http://www.imcedi.com for a look at the superordinate product that the app lies within ... It is called The EDI Tool Kit ... Thanks for the inquiry ... Regards, John G. I was thinking that no one had tackled this one yet in the BPCS world. How variant is the BOL that you have? We do both LTL and Full direct loads. We also do the Mark for / Ship to feature, as well as the consolidated shipment. The Supplemental form would be of common use in our environment. Does the Wal-Mart version cover these scenarios? Thanks for your rapid response, Bill. -----Original Message----- From: jdyer@IMCEDI.COM [mailto:jdyer@IMCEDI.COM] Sent: Thursday, June 21, 2001 4:27 PM To: BPCS-L@midrange.com Subject: Re: BOL VICS 2001 Standard Bill: My company publishes an add-on that produces the Wal-Mart variant of the VICS bill of lading document.
