A great alternative for reporting and analyzing data from BPCS is the use of the Cognos tools - Impromptu and PowerPlay. Impromptu is a query and reporting tool that uses catalogues (similar to user vision) to enable users to create queries and reports. The catalogues present the BPCS tables in business terms that make sense to the users. PowerPlay is a tool that allows for multidimensional analysis of BPCS data. Again, the user is presented with data the way they want and need to see it. Radius Information Systems Ltd. is a systems integration company with extensive knowledge in BPCS and we realized long ago that harnessing BPCS data for reporting and analysis is an extreme challenge. That is why we have been partners with Cognos for over 3 years now. We have provided reporting and analysis solutions using the Cognos tools in many different BPCS environments. We have extensive experience implementing both tools - from the earliest versions through 6.04 (and now working with 6.1). We have catalogues built over 6.04 that are very inclusive and offer users access to a great amount of data. The catalogues cover Sales & Distribution, Finance and Manufacturing and when implemented with the software are ready to go very quickly. With PowerPlay we have built solutions for Sales, Finance, Inventory analysis, Manufacturing, Customer Service analysis, Purchasing and other custom solutions. Cognos tools are very intuitive and easy to use and with our solutions are very quick to deploy within a BPCS environment. One of the main contenders is Microsoft Access. Has anyone used this approach? If so, we would be interested in setting up a dialog and possibly sharing Access programs.
