Because the bus speed of the 8xx (i-series) systems are 10x faster than the 7xx systems and below.

AL  &

We are  achieveing consistently acheivieng  35990 E11 transfer rates of 60GB,
now I will consede the more  small object the  slower things  get  but our
nightly backups  of full production  ( NO  systems )  runs on the average  of
60 GB.

What is different is  the 3590s E11 are on the  PCI towers via attach ( 2729
?)
. We did  see that  around 50%  improvement  in the 3590 upgrade from B11 to
E11 on our  model 730 8 way

Why is it you say one must  go  to an 8xx series  and use the PCI to drive
the E11s at rated speeds?  uou must  have some caveat in mind

Yes.  Your model 730 is not fast enough to drive the E11 at rated speed!

You will need to upgrade to an 8xx box and attach the E11 through PCI.

Sorry

I currently have a model 730 running V4R4 and have currently upgraded from a
3590 B11 to a 3590 E11. The drive is attached to a 6534 SCSI SPD card.  I'm
not seeing the promised 50% increase on my full system backups. The backups
have run for 10 hours on both the B11 and E11.  IBM states that the E11 has
a faster data transfer rate of 14mbs vs 9mbs for the B11.  Has anyone
experienced this problem? Any suggestions?  Thanks
