From Al Macintyre on 405 CD AS/400 V4R3 mixed mode

DSPFD "says" the text of the programmer source code at time of compile, not
what the file really is defined as. I have found a few cases in 405 CD where
apparently an SSA programmer, in the creation of a new logical, copied old
source & neglected to rephrase what's unique about it ... which means that
the WRKOBJ & other descriptions are also not quite right. If your system is
quiesed, it is safe to recompile a logical but I would not touch any
physicals. There has been some MIDRANGE_L discussion about how to use SQL to
fix descriptions of some files, without messing up the data contained within
them, I have not bothered to do anything about this.

If we were still on our old computer I might be able to link creation date of
file with what source was used, but everything we have now is creation dated
when we moved everything to the new CPU.

How are you determining that the data is not in right sequence?

On our system, if I do a dump of ITH via
RUNQRY *N ITH or
RUNQRY *N ITHL01 or
RUNQRY *N ITHL02 or
any one of a number of other logicals, I get to see the contents of ITH from
the very beginning of the unsorted data ... oldest record is in 1999.

However, when STRDFU option FIVE define logical view
then when it prompts me for ITEM# & SEQ#, just scroll forwards through the
file.
From this perspective ITHL02 & others are in the stated correct sequence.

So the question becomes
How does Paul know it is not sorted right? ... different tools different
pictures
How should we check this stuff?
