Quite true. I have a client from my "former life" that called me once in a
blue moon to support their old DMAS machine for the past eight years, usually
when their files got full. They called me last fall wanting to convert their
A/R to a new package on the AS/400 that they were installing -- BPCS. Since
I only "did" DMAS for them, they had forgotten my main line of work! Even
externally described files and simple programs are hard to do when there are
no Program Development Tools (PDM, SEU, SDA) or RPG compiler installed on
either of two AS/400's! Forget AS/Set! _IF_ you have access to the IBM
website so that you can research the column positions that you forgot long
ago, you _CAN_ create externally defined files (no, no SQL toolkit either).
CL programs, too. Just have to use DFU and CPYF with the *CVTSRC parameter
(no, no DBU either)...

Regards!
