AS400 Mixmode BPCS 6.1

Our materials manager has the following question about running MRP600 with
Net change option.

When running this, the job is creating about the same number of MRP sheets
as it does when running the normal MRP run. The Activity Flag is also
blank on the report. We thought this should only generate sheets for those
that have a net change. Any suggestions or comments are always
appreciated.

Rick:

I have several comments that may help to explain what is going on:

1. When MRP600 is run with the Net Change option, the process looks for
those Items that have the Activity Flag set to "Y". This flag gets set
whenever an action occurs for the Item that impacts data used for planning
calculations. These actions include such things as Inventory Transactions
(i.e. change to Onhand), Open Orders (e.g. Shop Orders, Shop Order
Requirements (FMA), Customer Orders, Purchase Orders, etc.), Forecasts,
Planned/Firm Planned Orders, Planning values (e.g. Order Policy, Lot Size,
etc.), Bill of Materials, etc.

2. Also, there is a "ripple" affect to other Items based on the planning
changes that occur. That is, a change occurs to a specific Item that updates
its plan. Based on BOM relationships, that change will also impact component
requirements and the associated plan for those Items. Therefore, these other
Items will also be re-planned.

3. Depending on your business environment, on the time between MRP runs
(i.e. do you run MRP daily, weekly, etc.), and on the activity of your Items,
the number of Items planned in a MRP Regen versus a Net Change may be quite
close.

4. After each Item is planned in MRP, the program clears the Activity Flag.
Therefore, you would expect the flag to be blank on the report (I assume you
are referring to MRP200 - MRP Exception Report) if you run it right after
MRP600 has completed. The Activity Flag will only be "Y" on the report if
some activity has occurred between the time that MRP600 was run and MRP200
was requested.

If you have further questions about these comments, please feel free to
contact me.
