We have been on a fiscal calendar that ended on a weekend EXCEPT END OF YEAR
really was end of calendar month for that one fiscal period for all eternity
... check with your auditors to find out if you can end your fiscal year on
whatever weekend is closest. I cannot imagine doing it any other way.

Outside the accounting department, no one is inconvenienced by end-of-month,
other than that one day each month where Friday work cannot be put off to
Monday, and accounting staff have the option of coming in on the weekend to
sort boxes of reports, instead of waiting until Monday to tie up shared
printers. The CFO is also setup to dial into our AS/400 from home so he has
the option of starting INV900 etc. & waiting until it is finished in maximum
comfort.

Fairly recently we changed our fiscal calendar. It was FEB-JAN now it is
same as regular calendar, except for when the months end.

The CFO sends around a memo to all departments every year shortly before the
next fiscal year to let everyone know what the months dates are, how many
shipping days in each month, where the holidays fall (the days we take off
are usually next to weekends rather than the official date).
