When you find the list of files that can be cleaned out regularly, you might
want to take a look at ARCTOOLS (http://www.arctools.com) to assist you in
doing a regular clean-up. ARCTOOLS allows you to very easily create
selective (field based record selection tests - like Query) purge (or
archive) jobs that can be run without locking out the users. Also - if you
have an existing purge-only routine but you want to archive the data instead
of throwing it away, it can add archiving to any existing purge routine
without programming. You just run a setup routine, run your existing purge,
then run the archive step afterwards.

So, if you find that there are ten files that you want to clean out every
week, and five more that you want to clean out monthly, you could set up
some jobs (either CL programs or perhaps scheduled jobs) that would run on a
regular basis to clean up the files.

You can also use it to clean out all the 'soft delete' records throughout
BPCS. These could be archived to another library, thus speeding up the
production system while keeping the records available on disk. If you want
to get fancy, you can add the archive PF into logical files to re-include
them in selected reports and inquiries. This makes the data available in
those few places where you'll need to see all that old data, but the rest of
the system will go much faster.

Good luck.
