In answer to your question about query:
We never did figure out how to get percentages thru query when doing totals 
only ... averaging the calculated fields does not cut it.

Yes, you are right.  The average percentage does not cut it.  You may want to 
try an additional pass through query totalling the variables you would use 
for calculating the percentage and then do the divide on a second query - in 
detail.
