Andreas,

This solution does not require access to as/400 commands, but does require
access to the user's spool files:

Create a printer definition on the PC using port "FILE:" instead of LPT1:.
Use the definition of Generic/Text printer model.
Create a printer session on the user's emulation that prints to this printer
and it's as/400 selection is Generic/Other printer model.
Have the 400 translate to ASCII.

Now, when you send a spool file to this outq/printer you will receive a text
input box asking for the location and name of the spool file to save to disk.
