I agree that BPCS V6.0.04 takes significantly more horsepower - for a couple
of reasons. First it is written in AS/SET which creates extremely
inefficient programs. Secondly the database reads are via SQL and not native
AS/400 processing. So don't get stuck with a box too small.
GUI vs green screen - no question, go with green screen - SSA calls it mixed
mode. In mixed mode, everything is green screen except CEA (actually you
have a choice of using green screen or GUI order entry, even in mixed mode).
You definately want green screen order entry!!! You get more efficient
screens (more on each screen), it is faster, easier to modify (the "M"
word!!!).
I agree you need to write your own conversion programs, coming from a version
that old. I am currently converting a client from a S/36 BPCS system to
AS/400 V6.0.04 (that's right, I said S/36). We have successfully created
conversion programs and all is OK.
Better get busy, though. You've got a "long way to go and a short time to
get there". Good luck!

Can anyone share their comments with me regarding early releases of BPCS
using "green screen" vs. the newer "GUI" releases. I understand the GUI
releases require much more horsepower.
Believe it or not, we run BPCS 1.0 (that is not a typeo - we are actually
using one-point-oh) but have been given the mandate to go to 6.?
Thank You,
