TDR stands for "Transaction Data Repository". TDR is not the name of a file, it's a generic term that applies to any transaction file used by CPR, which in turn stands for "Configurable PRocessing". Sorry about that, I couldn't come up with a better acronym. To be honest, I didn't think "CPR" would get past the powers that be when I came up with it, but it did. CPR was originally designed to support the ill-fated SOM (Sales Order Management) product. Originally we used data queues, but because of size and performance limitations (data queues were abominably slow in the early days) we also had to support database files. We needed a generic term that didn't imply the method of storage. If I'm not mistaken, Ron Scheuman came up with the term TDR, although he may not admit to it these days. Lorraine Ford put in the restart/recovery capabilities; TDR's are remarkably robust - the original design allowed you to pull the plug on the AS/400, restart it, and the servers would pick up where they left off. The team that put CPR together was one of the best I've ever had the honor to work with. I'd list them, but I think they want to forget those days - they were working for me at the time [grin]. Anyway, there are lots of TDRs. Some are used as input to the servers, some are used for responses back to the clients. This is a true message-based client/server architecture, where the client makes a request to a server such as GET or UPDATE, and the server returns a response. All the data is passed through the TDR, and then is deleted once it is used, so the TDR's can end up with tons and tons of deleted records. I'm not sure what the naming conventions for the TDRs are in 6.0; other people have suggested that they start with "ZQ", which makes sense, since I all the CPR files started with ZQ. +--- | This is the BPCS Users Mailing List! | To submit a new message, send your mail to BPCS-L@midrange.com. | To subscribe to this list send email to BPCS-L-SUB@midrange.com. | To unsubscribe from this list send email to BPCS-L-UNSUB@midrange.com. | Questions should be directed to the list owner: dasmussen@aol.com +---
