Ms. Kregar, In a message dated 97-11-10 13:40:31 EST, you write: > I heard a rumor from a VERY reliable source the other day that SSA decided to > make COM non-client/server for the next release. Why? Because it's just too > darn slow to run in client/server! Apparently, the speed issue couldn't be > resolved without a total re-write, so COM is going back to green-screen. > Anybody else hear about this? Is this a case of customers being able to > say, "Toldja so!" ?? I hadn't heard, but my phone is _SURE_ going to start getting a workout! This would be welcome news, indeed. It may be a case of users saying "I'll see you in court". As I've oft opined, ORD500 is probably the most heavily user-modified program in the entire BPCS suite. SSA's inability to provide a working copy of ODW has left the user base (that has modified ORD500, and who that uses it hasn't?) with SSA-supported Y2K choices of: 1) Upgrade to V6 and pay SSA to add your mod's to ORD500, or 2) Pay SSA to upgrade you to 4.05CD and make your mod's yourself. Neither alternative sits well with customers that have stayed with SSA through thick and thin. Coupled with idiotic stuff like not allowing an alphabetical "position to" function when picking a customer or item, it would not be outside the realm of possibility that SSA decided to "regroup" on the GUI version of COM. Thanks for the tip, I'll see what I can do to confirm it... Regards, Dean Asmussen Enterprise Systems Consulting, Inc.
