SSA Settles Suit ??

        CHICAGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 1, 1997--Roger E. Covey, chief
        executive officer of System Software Associates Inc.
(NASDAQ:SSAX),
        announced today that the Circuit Court of Cook County approved a
final
        settlement of the class action lawsuit filed in state court
earlier this year. 

        The final settlement approved by the court was identical to that
announced in
        the company's previous public filings. The costs of the
settlement had
        previously been accrued by the company in it's fiscal third
quarter. Covey
        stated that he believes that "settlement of this groundless
class action puts an
        end to litigation fees and costs, will be binding upon similar
claims asserted by
        the plaintiffs in the federal litigation and will allow SSA to
move forward and
        concentrate on doing what we do best -- delivery of the world's
best
        enterprise wide Client/Server software."
