We were advised to simply load the new version alongside the existing one Buck - which is what we did. Once we were happy that all was working we simply switched our Apache directives to point at the new one. Can't recall the details and Alan Seiden did most of the work for us. Check out his web site (https://www.seidengroup.com <https://www.seidengroup.com/>) - I seem to recall that he had a piece on upgrading at one tie but I don't se it now. He's a really helpful guy and I'm sure can give you some pointers if you can't find them on the web site.

I find the zend.com web pages to be too difficult for my IBM i brain to

I was ultimately able to download Zend Server for IBM i 8.5 from ESS.

Is there documentation on upgrading this?
Google found an IBM i installation guide page
http://files.zend.com/help/Zend-Server-8.5-IBMi/Content/i5_installation_guide.htm
but there's nothing about moving from a prior version. The archives
here don't seem to threads on upgrading that I could find by searching
for PHP or ZEND.
