CGI programming with RPG _IS_ super easy and should be for any
programmer. It's been around for many years (I think my first eRPG book
was published in 1999). Using CGIDEV2, our eRPG SDK or another available
kits is a must(even though I hate to say that)
Don't try to just use the APIs or API wrappers Download one of these
toolkits and you'll see how easy things can be.
The hard part for most is learning HTML, JavaScript, CSS, etc. Most of
these are new to RPG programmers only because they're used to doing
business programming. And these technologies seem to be every changing
(for the better) so yes, putting together web applications should be
considered a full time job, just as reporting or subfile programming is.
You are right. It shouldn't be hard. Because it isn't. :)
All any of these solutions do, whether its Perl, PHP, Python, Node, RPG,
etc is spit out dynamic content to a browser. Making it look nice is the
part most RPGers struggle with.
