Jon,

I liked your raising the possibility of using XMLSERVICE for Web services. Most of the other articles focused on the connection with the PHP Toolkit. We've been discussing a possible connection with .Net in this thread; I could see Richard or someone creating a .Net interface similar to the PHP Toolkit, but I had not contemplated an RPG client interface because RPG can call commands and programs through standard procedural interfaces.

Then I realized that an RPG programmers may need the ability to request Web services on remote IBM i systems, where XMLSERVICE would offer unique value. So add an RPG client interface to the pool of ideas. Similar to the PHP Toolkit, an RPG interface could shield programmers from XML input and output formats, and just expose procedures to generate and consume the XML.
