Since few of us live in that perfect world of latest processors, massive memory & disk, and even multiple i systems to cluster, all dedicated to web only apps, the question about what scales best may in terms of what hardware it's running on and whats a normal load & what can be considered a peak load.
Are we handling a consistent load or the "if you buy in the next 5 minutes" flash across the web and taking a 10,000% increase in hits... kind of site?
I know that all 3 methods (cgi, php,j2ee) can scale up to big loads. I've only built the cgi stuff, and even on the tiniest I've never had Apache or the i fall over.
