I agree that having to install MyDesk on all PCs is a downside of Silverdev, but it allows you to be totally rid of concerns about compatibility with different browsers and different release of browsers, which is my nightmare when I program web apps.

When you run 5250 applications, you have to install client access or any other 5250 emulator, so I never found that installing MyDesk is annoying enough for stopping me from using Silverdev. The installation process for a standard user takes only a few seconds.
It's quite different from other client-server programs which needs tons of dll to be installed on each PC, along with the applications themselves.
Remember that Silverdev core and Silverdev applications run entirely on the i.

All my customers using Silverdev are very happy with it.

Some advanced features are still young and need to be developed with time, but what is great is that the support is very reactive and kindly develop what you need quite fast. The availability and quality of Experia's technical team is part of what makes me a Silverdev addict.

For people that uses "Client-Server" this is "normal". It is one of the
bad parts about fat clients.

Ouch. That sounds like a deployment nightmare. I just don't understand why
software vendors think that is an acceptable approach these days.

We looked at this maybe 3 years ago before the English translation was
ready. I was quite excited about it but when admin found out that every
modification of an application would need to be installed on every PC that
used it, the idea was dropped. I don't know if anything has changed since.
