I have a dream, that one day IBM will not create another language <cough>
Net.Data <cough> EGL and instead realize the gold mine of existing devotees
in the RPG arena. That one day we could see changes to the RPG compiler that
would give it enough of a facelift to get it immediate attention similar to
what Ruby On Rails is getting (http://www.rubyonrails.org/) with its ease of
use and productivity minded infrastructure. Once IBM grasps the reality
that RPG could in fact play a "popular role" in iSeries application
development, they will be set to beat Microsoft at their own game (e.g.
platform dependant languages that are well integrated).
Next generation of RPG... "RPG on Rails"
Dreaming in color,
