Similar, today I changed a test source from SQLRPGLE to RPGLE, and afterward I couldn't open the source. I had to delete the cached source in order to open the member.
"Operation failed. File system input or output error"

In my case, the extension of the file was ".rpgle" instead of ".RPGLE". I just tried it again, and this time I changed the extension to all caps, and then I could open it from RSE.

Subject: [WDSCI-L] More on change member source type problem

Last week I had a problem after changing the souce type of a member from RPGLE to SQLRPGLE using the properties function for the source member in the RSE filter.
After suggestions from the list, I found the member in the RemoteSystemsTempFiles folder, deleted it and then was able to open it normally.
Well, it just happened again at another account (also after installing fix pack
8.0.2) and I looked further into it.
It appears that the file in the RemoteSystemsTempFiles folder had its suffix changed to sqlRPGLE.  I changed it to SQLRPGLE, and was then able to open the source member normally.

I think this is a bug in RDP.
