Hi Mark,

This is the link to WDSc tutorial, which includes a tutorial for debugger.
It is a bit out of date, though. It does not have information about
service entry point, which is a new feature added recently.

http://www-306.ibm.com/software/awdtools/wdt400/library/iSeriesAppDev.html

There is no "Run to breakpoint". You just set a breakpoint on a program,
and run. If this breakpoint is encountered during the execution of the
program, the program will be stopped.

Could you please give me more details of your scenario? Thanks.

Xuan,

BTW, I've also been struggling trying to debug programs from RSE - it's
been very frustrating. Even when I "accidentally" managed to et it going,
I found the breakpoint process difficult. I don't see a "run to
breakpoint" icon. What is the equivalent funcion? Is there a step by step
tutorial?

Hi Rob,

The service entry point invocation of a debug session will not work for if
you run your program in the RSE server job. Good catch :-), but it is
working as designed. We took this off since if the debug session is
started on the RSE job, all the other RSE operations will be held.
If you want to debug a program running on the RSE job, you need to attach
to that job explicitly.

Xuan,

I am trying this and maybe I am failing to understand.
- I compiled the source that I have open in the editor.
- In the RSE perspective, under iSeries objects, library list, library,
object, I right click on the new program and select Debug, Set Service
Entry point.
- In that same perspective, and area, I right click on the same object and
select Run(Prompt)(F), iSeries application in RSE job
- On the "My iSeries program for run" window I click on Run.
Nothing happens.
What am I doing wrong?

Hi Mike,

One of the way to invoke the debugger to debug your program is to use
Service Entry Point support in RSE.

If you are using WDSc 6.0, right click on the program/service program you
want to debug, and choose Debug (Service Entry) -> Set Service Entry
Point.
If you are using WDSc 5.1.2, right click on the program/service program
you
want to debug, and choose Service Entry Point -> Set.

Then just run your program/service program. A debug session will come up,
with your program under debug.

Thanks a lot for the response. I tried the snippet of code and it worked
just like I wanted to. Rob also recommended the usage of debugger and I am
trying to figure out how to go about using it in RSE. Thanks for all your
help.

Mike.
