Josée,

Two remarks that might be of help to you:

1. Delete the 3.0.2 version and download the 3.0.1 version instead. There
is a bug in 3.0.2 that won't allow you to export a result set to Excel
(which is another great reaon to use QuantumDB)

2. You should install it as follows:

        * unzip the downloaded ZIP file in a directory (for instance
c:\downloads)
        * in WDSCi, go to Help / Software Updates / Find and Install...
        * choose "Search for new features to install"
        * add a "New local site", and point it to the unzipped folder
where you put QuantumDB

The rest should be easy (agree, accept, yes, next, you know the drill),
after which you can open the QuantumDB perspective and SQL your heart out.

Re: [WDSCI-L] Bens

When I read your email, I thought that sounded interesting, so, I have
downloaded the extension, unzipped it in my eclipse directory,( C:\Program
Files\IBM\Rational\SDP\6.0\eclipse\plugins) but I have no idea where to
look to see if I did it right, also, I can't find the help that others are
talking about. I can't see the plugin either in Window/Open
Perspectives. Can you help me out here please? I am at WDSC 6.0.1, I
downloaded 3.0.2 Quantum-DB, and I do have the GEF installed.

Thanks in advance for your help,

Josée

One of the major things that I find is a plus is the plug-ins, an
example of this is Quantum-DB. This plug-in will let you run sql
statements (select, update, and deletes) against a multitude of
platforms. I currently have it configured to access DB2 on the i5 and
an Oracle db and when I get the time I will add MS SQL. There are other
products out there that can do all of this and more but this is for
free! In fact this one reason is how I'm getting one of our developers
to try it out. Also if you want to extend the functionality of it you
can write your own plug-in and if it is of enough value, offer it back
to the community.

Along with all the things Eric mentioned, I would add the debugger. Way
better than the green screen debug. Service entry points are awesome.

You will find people like it for different reasons. Personally, I don't
use code complete and I really don't like automatic syntax checking. I
find both annoying. Others on the list like them a lot and would miss
them sorely if they were to disappear. Just a matter of different
development styles. Which, by the way, may be the biggest advantage of
WDSc. It is highly customizable so everyone can configure it to be the
most efficient working environment for them.

Personally, I see the outline, code-completion, and online documentation
being the best features. I like being able to work offline. I also
like the simple things like colorized source, bigger editing window
(less paging up/down/right/left), and the verifier.... If you have
change management in your shop, there are most likely plugins for WDSCi
that can really make your job a breeze.

Best of luck....
