We moved from a 620 to a 720 two years ago... We actually did a processor
upgrade on the same box...
The only new thing you need is the updated authorization codes...

The other things to consider outside of the libraries, which I would just
save/restore, are the ancillary objects that the system relies upon...
The UserIDs and OUTQ's, and authority levels (QSECURITY *SEC System
security level)
Bear in mind that all JBA objects are owned by QPGMR when delivered and run
under adopted authority (for the most part)...
I would suggest that QPGMR should have *ALLOBJ authority as a precaution...

Make sure that key system values are set correctly including the QSYSLIBL -
should include OSLSYS...

Be sure to check for any cross-library dependencies using the Display Library
Dependencies (DSPLIBDEP) command after the restore...
You don't want any logical files scoped over the wrong libraries...
Obviously you need to move any custom objects...
You may be surprised by some custom objects stored in QGPL instead of where you
thought they should be...

We were very happy after the move from the 620 to the 720... We had been
experiencing severe performance problems prior to the move...
I hear that if you intend to move to V5 of the OS/400 you have to be on an 8xx
box so I guess our next upgrade will be to an 8xx... We'll probably be able to
drop a processor class when that happens...

Best of luck...

Subject SYS21 - Moving JBA to a new machine
  :

We are going to be taking all of JBA from our 620 box to a 720 box. I am
wondering if any one has done this type of move before.
If so, are there any gothca's that we need to be aware of? We have tossed
around a couple of ideas of how to do this. One is to save and restore.
Another is to use DDM and pass the data over thru the frame relay that tie
the two boxes together.
(We are aware of the license problem.)

Any thoughts would be helpful.

Thanks
