Title: RE: Consignment.

We had a consignment inventory situation for a period of time and ran the inventory through System 21.  Sys 21 supports consigned inventory situations in my opinion.

We established a PTYP = C for consigned inventory in 2/INM.  Second, any consigned inventory item had an item type in 2/INM = C.  Standard Cost was = .0000.

We created the payable for the item using AFI rules that were keyed on the item type.  If the item type were equal to C, then we wrote records to the payable application and the GL to reflect the payable owed.

As far a replenishment, we were able to replenish the inventory using off the shelf forecasting and DRP modules with no issue.  Purchase orders were suggested by Forecasting and we were able to use Purchase Management to create Purchase Orders.  The only other thing to consider was setting the Current Price in 3/PMM to 0.00001.  By using this cost (essentially no value), it keeps the purchase price variance down to a minimum.

If anything could be changed regarding Sys 21 and Consigned Inventory to improve the process, it would be to allow for a Current Price to be equal to 0 if the item type is consigned.

If you have any questions on this, please let me know.  Good luck.

Has anyone in the JBA user group used System/21 for goods on consignment?
What I mean is, if I stocked a vendors goods in my warehouse on
consignment (meaning the vendor still owns the goods, but its in my
possession).  If so how is this done?
