  • Subject: Rebuild G/L Balances

I thought the group would be interested in the results of our G/L balance
rebuild:

We started the rebuild at 7:00 AM Sunday morning and ended at 2:40 AM Monday
morning. We rebuilt 9 months of transactions. It did correct the erroneous
balances. It also gave us a 33,000 page error list, so if you are going to
run it change the maximum records on GL226PT to *NOMAX before you start.
Our error list was so long because we made a balance sheet mod that makes
the rebuild think every transaction is out of balance.

GL178 has an error message :
The hierarchy balance maintenance program discovered a hierarchy with
more than 98 levels. It is likely that this is caused by a summary account
reporting into itself at a higher level, causing looping. In any case, a
hierarchical structure is not allowed to have more than 98 levels.

There are various other error reports that have self explanatory messages.

We do have more than 98 levels in some hierarchies and did not know about
this error until the balance rebuild. The JBA help desk says it does not
really cause any problems except the rebuild may run longer.

File sizes:
FLP062 12,314 records
FLP008 15,000,632 records
FLP007 2,608,522 records

We have an S30 with 2 gig of memory.
