We’re in a position of embracing a lot of new things, while still keeping the core legacy RPG/400 codebase. As every shop as its own reasons for being where they are, we’re given the leeway to code in whatever is best suited for the job at hand. Many years ago, before my time, developers here would cringe when an they came across an ILERPG program because they were purist RPG/400 programmers and didn’t want to take the time / effort to upgrade their skills. Now, it’s more necessary than ever to be current. In addition to our RPG/400 codebase, we’re designing a lot web/REST interfaces in ILERPG, Java-interfaces, etc… it’s not all legacy code development.

Our CORE ERP system works fine and does the job. It may not be what many here would like but what works for at whatever company you’re at may not migrate as easily to others.

If it were up to me, I would migrate to free

There should be no need to get management approval

You are paid to use your knowledge and skills

In my case the other support person has to be able to support the code and that has its challenges

There is huge benefit from RPGILE. The functionality benefits over RPG/400 way out way the disadvantages
