No promises, but I know my CLF product of years ago supported NULL fields
even though using run-time program described files. I'll try to figure out
how I did that way back when...

Perhaps I can read the mapping error *DIAG messages and infer that the
columns are NULL. The question is whether the rest of the columns will
get populated or not. Time is so dear right now...
