You could pass a data structure with various types overlaid at position 1

dcl-ds parm2_t Qualified Template;
packedfield Packed(5:2);
charfield Char(250);
end-ds

dcl-proc writeb;
dcl-pi *n;
parm1 Char(50) const;
parm2 LikeDs(parm2_t) const;
end-pi;

end-proc;

Only issue with this, you can only pass character strings as a literal
value. Anything else would have to be passed inside a data structure. The
other option you would have is to pass the data in a special format like
XML or JSON, but once again, you can't pass just a number, or just a
character string as a literal.

is it possible to define this so that it take any "type" as a second parm.
Then within the routine, determine what that parm type is and proceed as
needed.
