Someone may have already mentioned this...

If you are going to be using RPG and F-Specs then you need to write to a logical which does not include the date and/or timestamp fields. The system will then fill in the date & timestamp fields for you.

Typically, and it is the easiest way, we create LFs which by default include all the fields in the PF, rather than explicitly specifying the fields needed in the LF. Thus changes to the PF tend to require recompiles of all programs that touch any of the LFs. Better, IMHO, not to use the PF, but always use a logical with explicitly specified fields, though it is more up-front work.

The timestamp is defined as DEFAULT current. I am not using a view or index, so the field is included. Therefore it defaults to 0001 01 01 etc.
