I'm trying to upload a one-field text file to the AS/400 and
place the data into a physical file. The data is coming from
SQL Server and is one field, numeric.
Here's what I've done so far:

<<SNIP>>
* I can FTP it to the 400, and that works fine.
It comes over as one field.

I'd like to put the data in a work file with one numeric field
defined, in as easy a way as possible, and without having to
write a quickie program to do it. Any suggestions?

Given the text data was PUT using FTP into a TABLE previously created with the following DDL:

create table theLib/theFile
( onefield char( 17 ) not null )

Then perform the following SQL DDL request [which is written as RPG, solely to make the reply relevant to the forum]:

/Free
Exec SQL
create view qtemp/workfile as
( select cast(onefield as numeric (15, 5)) as myNumeric
from theLib/theFile
) ;
