How does one code an EXISTS in Iseries SQL. I checked the V7R1 SQL Reference manual and it doesn't have an example.

The code below would fail if there are multiple matching records. EXISTS should be used to check on data existence.

Not sure if this would be of any benefit, but if I am understanding correctly what you are trying to achieve, I like to do the following;

D Found s n inz('0')

Found=*off;
EXEC SQL
Select '1' into :Found
from rates
where opcode =:zcode;
if SQLCOD<000;
"WHAT'S THE PROBLEM"
endif;
// Found represents a positive match to the sql request if Found;
"DO SOMETHING HERE"
endif;

Cheers.
Matt.

You have to FETCH the resulting dataset into a variable to see if the SQL returned any data.

I have the following embedded code:

Exec SQL
Declare C1 cursor for
Select * from rates
Where opcode =:zcode;
Exec SQL open C1;

Now I know for a fact that there will not be a match right now meaning that the value of zcode is not in the file.....so why does Sqlcod return all zeros?
