D array1DS DS
D myNumbers 9P 2 Dim(10)
D elem2Thru10 45 Overlay(array1DS: 6)

/Free

// Move 9 to 10, 8 to 9, 7 to 8, et cetera
elem2Thru10 = array1DS ;

You can avoid defining the extra subfield by using %SUBST on the data
structure.

%subst(array1DS : %size(myNumbers) + 1) = array1DS;

Yes, but the OP asked how he might define a DS in order to handle this. I
answered the asked question - or tried to.

But a question for you, Barbara: Won't the above code cause all elements of
myNumbers to be filled with the value that's in myNumbers(1)? I remember
this technique from my 360 Assembler days, when we would clear a printer
field by doing:
MVC OUTPUT,OUTPUT-1

Don't we need a Right-to-Left move? Or will the compiler figure that out?
