Like Charles says, take a look at iDate on
www.think400.dk/downloads.htmunder iDate.

iDate is a User Defined Function written in RPG/ILE for best performance.

It will convert a numeric or character field to a date data type and
supports almost every kind of date format.

The default type is a decimal 8.0 in a CCYYMMD format. If that is your
default type, you do not have to change anything.

If you needed to convert a USA format, you would use
iDate(YourDateField,'*MDCCY') for example.
