I know it is possible to declare the FIFO keyword on a logical file. I
just don't know for sure if there are any implications to doing it over a
physical file that is not necessarily FIFO. Perhaps those more
knowledgeable than I can confirm this. If I am right and it will work, it
should be a really simple fix for you.

It might, assuming it's possible, and assuming it has the desired effect.

But I don't know enough about FIFO to know if either of those
assumptions would hold, and so I defer to those wiser than I.
