it's maybe some kind of obfuscation
but you could code something like this

if Control()
and Extract()
and Calculate()
and Output()
return *on
else
dosomething()
return *off
endif

ELSEIF NOT Extract ()
RtnVar = *OFF

ELSEIF NOT Calculate ()

ELSEIF NOT Output ()

RETURN RtnVar
